It was a combination of things that set me back. In true mom fashion, I put everything in my life before my own and I rationalized why I could not ever make time to go to the gym. And after my father became ill in the Fall of 2011, things really became out of control and I completely lost my way with my own health.
The Wake Up Call:
Last June, at my yearly doctors appointment, is when it hit me that something needed to change. I realized that if I didn't start now, I wouldn't ever start. I would see pictures of myself and couldn't believe it was me. I would think to myself “who is that”? Weighing close to what I weighed at my highest pregnancy weight, I was devastated.
After hearing that Leverage Fitness Studio was coming to Pittston as their second location, I told myself I was going to give it a try. I was petrified, awkward and beyond uncomfortable about starting. I even tried to get my husband to come with me and although he couldn't, he encouraged me to just go. On July 1, 2017, I went to the opening Mega class, alone! I stood in the back corner the furthest away from the front as possible, hoping that no one would even notice me. That didn't go as planned. Everyone noticed me and made me feel welcome instantly, the trainers came over to talk to me and that was it, I knew Leverage was the place for me. The class was hard and I could barely walk for two days but I went back for a Primal Scream class the next week and the rest as they say, is history.
The Workouts at Leverage are second to none. The same goes for the trainers, all of them, and the atmosphere I get a rush from being a part of it. The music rocks, the low dim lighting is awesome and the overall vibe is unmatched that I actually get disappointment when I'm not able to make a class. For me, life is all about connection, belonging, love and trust. Leverage has all of this and so much more.
Not only have the workouts made me stronger physically (I actually have defined muscles!), it has also made me stronger mentally. From the start, it's been all about progress and I am continually doing things at Leverage that not only shock and surprise me but make me feel super proud. I aim to make 5 classes a week and I always leave feeling strong, refreshed and re-charged. My latest accomplishment is being able to do a real push up!
Nutrition has definitely been the biggest struggle for me and it wasn't until about a month ago, when I was helped by Jenn, that I took my nutrition to the next level. I would skip meals, add extra cream and sugar to my coffee, snack on the wrong foods and eat an over-abundance when I got home from work due to being starving from skipping meals. I now eat 3 balanced meals a day with snacks in between. I've never felt better, stronger or more focused!
The Shout Outs:
Michele Sickle and Vanessa Nee, if it weren't for these two joining me in bootcamp back in September, I honestly don't know if I would have stuck with it not having them as part of my support team. They keep me motivated, pick me up when I'm frustrated and we always have a great time during class.
The trainers, they are all so supportive and encouraging! Specifically for me, I have to say thank you to Denise, Danny, Jess and Jenn. I would be no where near where I am today without them. They push us, cheer us on, teach us and constantly are inspiring us to keep going. Without the team at Leverage, it would just be another gym. Thanks to Tim and and Leverage for coming to Pittston and welcoming me into the Leverage family, I will always be grateful for that.
Last, but never least, thank you to my daughter and husband. They support my new passion with tons of love and encouragement. You are both my everything!
